The Cottages Philosophy
. . . . . . . . . . . .

The Cottages believes in a Tenant's right to choose regardless of one’s physical condition or circumstance. Each Tenant deserves a right to privacy, respect and confidentiality and each Tenant has the right to expect professional care.

A person’s total well-being is the primary focus of the care provided by The Cottages. Our belief is to provide assistance with compassion, respect and dignity to those older adults who once may have been the leaders of our community.

The Cottages believes in assisting the “whole” person and that our Tenants needs may reach beyond the physical element. We believe in supporting the whole family by providing the assistance that is needed on a day to day basis. It will allow our Tenants quality time with their families and the freedom to enjoy each other.

Our dream is to become a valuable Community asset, but the success of The Cottages will be measured by personal satisfaction and the happiness expressed by our Tenants, Families and Staff.

HOW WILL ASSISTED LIVING HELP MY MOM or DAD’S OVERALL HEALTH?

After moving into an assisted living facility you may notice that your loved one’s overall health has improved. This is why:

The fact of the matter is social interaction is an essential part of leading a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. Routine social interaction with peer and interest groups, family and friends can reduce a Senior’s risk of depression and stroke.

Furthermore, a vibrant social life can greatly increase the overall quality of a Senior’s life. Sharing ones interests and hobbies with others, reminiscing over the virtues of yesteryear and discussing the challenges of today, or simply just having a group of friends can build a vital sense of community and have a dramatic affect on an elderly individual’s attitude and outlook on life.

Sadly, many Seniors view such important social interactions as burdensome for their and not worth the hassle involved in them. Low self-esteem and the feeling that they can no longer contribute to society all too often drives Seniors to resign to living a lonely and isolated life in their golden years.

The Cottages offers your loved one a way to discover the psychological and physical health benefits of participating in a small social community. Our dedicated care professionals will take an active interest in your loved one’s life. We can provide encouragement to reconnect with old friends, pursue interests and hobbies, become involved in spiritual congregations and develop healthy routines of social interaction. The Cottages Staff will offer friendly reminders of the times and dates of up coming social engagements, enabling the Senior who suffers from memory loss the chance to enjoy participation in organized groups.

HEALTH BENEFITS:

Your loved one can reap the benefits of a well balanced lifestyle. The onset of depression, related to an elderly person’s withdrawal from social interaction as mobility issues take affect on his or her life, is a serious issue facing our older generation.

Nearly 2 million adults over the age of 65 suffer from depression and the health implications are startling. The onset of depression increases a Senior Citizen’s chances of suffering a debilitating stroke by 73%!

A Senior with depression is far more likely to become ill than one who leads and active and socially engaged lifestyle. Since illnesses as minor as a common cold can progress into serious conditions such as pneumonia in the elderly, a lack of social interaction must be treated as seriously as other health issues.

The consequences of a Senior’s reclusion into their own home are clearly devastating, but the solution is simple to remedy this situation. A focused and deliberate effort to encourage your loved one to socialize can combat depression and mitigate these issues before they become realities.

The Cottages can offer an independent lifestyle within their own apartment, along with the knowledge that Staff is available 24 hours a day to help with whatever they may need. The Cottages will provide a family friendly environment that will aid in the adjustment process and encourage a level of socialization that is comfortable for your loved one.

Just wanted to let you know that Mother sounds the best I've heard her sound since she moved into the Cottages! She just raved about the Thanksgiving dinner you created for them . . . and then the decorating for Christmas and the group picture! You've really touched her heart.

My family and I can't say enough good things about your staff and how well they deal with Dad and his changing moods. So, thanks again to you and your staff. We all feel that Dad is in the best, safest, and caring place he could be!
